Change the world

The NMMU's Department of Innovation Support and Technology Transfer joined in on the festivities of World IP Day this April through a number of activities which were held in an attempt to raise Intellectual Property (IP) awareness among students, staff members and researchers.

A free lunchtime IP talk was held on 20 April by Spoor & Fisher attorney Dirk Hanekom to interested students, staff and researchers. In addition, consultation hours were made available throughout the day to allow researchers to have one-on-one discussions with Dirk.

On 21 April the Innovation crew head out to the Kraal with student inventors to talk about their innovations (current projects of NMMU). Prize give-aways, consultation sessions with innovation officers and a competition for a 2GB iPod Shuffle was held to entice students, staff members and researchers to learn more about IP.

The competition for the iPod consisted of a questionnaire with three questions on IP and ended on 23 April. The winner, Phumela Jejane (pictured above with Mary-Ann Chetty), was selected and notified at 12pm the following day.
