Drone and Unmanned Aviation Conference 2023

Nelson Mandela University’s Innovation Office participated in the Drone and Unmanned Aviation Conference in Johannesburg on 1-2June 2023. This conference gathered drone professionals from a wide range of industries, including agriculture, mining, construction, healthcare, insurance, energy, power generation, oil and gas, maritime, sewage management, and cement production, to share best practices and discuss innovative ideas for the future of the commercial drone industry.

At the event, the University showcased its Vertical Take-off and Landing Autonomous Aircraft (VTOL)drone technology, designed for autonomous cargo transport over long distances from unprepared areas. This technology targets niche markets such as heavy cargo delivery, aerial surveying, and environmental monitoring. The Innovation Office’s participation in the conference, was successful in, making valuable connections with potential industry partners.

The Innovation Office acknowledges National Intellectual Property Management Office (NIPMO) for their on-going support and recognition of our efforts to raise and commercialise Intellectual Property (IP).
