Nelson Mandela University B.A Honours in Psychology student, Zintle Sigwabe, was recently invited to attend the South African Innovation Summit to showcase her innovation “Liqhame Liqaqambe Ikamva”, a therapy hub which offers skills development and counselling for the community, from 6 to 8 September 2017 in Cape Town.

Zintle (photographed left) first learnt about the Summit through the Active Leadership Programme, a youth community development programme, where she was encouraged to apply. Her innovation aims to create awareness in youth, promote good mental health and decrease environmental issues, and thus met the Summit prerequisite for the project to be for or within the community.

“Innovation Summit was an amazing space to be in, I came across like-minded people who envision greatness for South Africa. The Summit was mostly centered on business, digital, education and mostly the future for South Africa,” she said.

Inspired by her surroundings and experiences, she has realised the necessity for safe, creative educational spaces, affirming the name for her counselling - therapy hub, “Liqhame Liqaqambe Ikamva” [Ignite and shine for brighter future].

The S.A. Innovation Summit is an annual flagship event it’s a platform created to nurture, develop and showcase African innovation, facilitating thought-leadership innovation and collaborations within their ecosystem. The Innovation Office assisted Zintle with transportation to attend the Summit.
